Gaga launches ‘Born This Way Foundation’

1 Mar

Many people look up to Lady Gaga because of her non-conformism to society. She is an inspiration to many, and also one of the most famous performers in the world today. Late Yesterday, Lady Gaga, along with her mother Cynthia Germanotta, used her fame for good when she launched their ‘Born This Way Foundation’ at Harvard University. I tried to stream it but it kept breaking up which I’m sure is due to so many people listening in to support such a great cause. The Foundation is aimed to create a more accepting society for the youth of today. It’s not so much of an anti-bullying foundation, as it is a foundation that helps create a space for youth to celebrate individuality, and encourage self-expression within a safe, welcoming, empowering environment.

The other speakers at yesterdays launch were: the always inspiring talk show host Oprah Winfrey, as well as writer/doctor/public speaker Deepak Chopra. At the launch, Gaga stated ”but the three pillars are ‘SSO.’ Remember these things today, it would make me very very happy: Safety. Skills. Opportunity”. She stated as well that she doesn’t know when change will happen, she just hopes that it does.

This is an incredible foundation that will allow youth to not only have a place to celebrate self-expression and individuality, but to have a place that encourages bravery. In our society, youth have a daily struggle with trying to figure out who they are, who they want to be, and who they think they should be. To create a safe environment where they can go that encourages individualism and self-expression will give them a better chance of developing into the person they truly want to be, not the person society pressures them to be. In time, hopefully this can help develop society into one which is more accepting. To donate, or to just read more about this great foundation, check out the link below.
