‘GCB’

4 Mar

Tonight is the premiere of the ABC show ‘GCB’. It’s a comedy-drama based off the Kim Gatlin book ‘Good Christian Bitches’- which was also ABC’s original name for the series, then it was changed to ‘Good Christian Belles’, and is now just ‘GCB’. I prefer ‘Good Christian Bitches’, gives us as an audience a better idea of the basis of the show.

‘GCB’ is produced by Darren Star, the creator of the HBO hit series ‘Sex and the City’. If this show is anything like ‘SATC’, it should be a hit. The series is based on Amanda Vaughn (Leslie Bibb), a women who returns to her hometown of Dallas as a single mother of two teens to live with her mother (following a nasty divorce). Growing up, Vaughn was the bitchy girl in high school who made many peoples teenage years miserable. Once in Dallas, Vaughn decides to take a different approach to life, and no longer wants be the bitch she grew-up as. This transition proves to be difficult when she is reacquainted with the former schoolmates she used to mock, one being Carlene Cockburn (Kristen Chenoweth)- who continues to hold a grudge against Vaughn and isn’t going to make it easy for her.

For you (Atlantic) Canadians, the show premieres on CTV at 8pm, and ABC at 11pm. I am going to tune-in to the premiere tonight and will be posting my personal thoughts about the show. I think television is in need of another entertainingly scandalous all women’s show. ‘Desperate Housewives’ was successful for a bit, but is in it’s final season this year and has definitely been lacking in story-line, as well as viewers, over the past 4 years. Personally, nothing has come close to topping ‘SATC’, but this show sounds as though it has potential to be just as entertaining. Will you be tuning in?
